I’m Lesley Kelly and I am one of the Subject Leaders for A Level Computing and BTEC Information Technology.

I had the pleasure of working in industry before becoming a teacher, which has given me brilliant experience within the sector. I have been teaching here at Newcastle College for quite a while now. I am passionate about my subject and I love how Information Technology is constantly changing and developing, which makes it so exciting to teach!

The future looks bright if you study Computer Science at NSCG.

Alex Webb

Alex Webb

Lecturer: Computer Science

Hi!

I’m Alex Webb, and I'm one of the Computer Science Lecturers here at Newcastle College.

I have worked at the college for 4 years teaching on the BTEC and A-Level courses.

Before I joined the college, I studied Computer Science at Aberystwyth University and during my degree, I studied many different areas of computer science from web development through to software engineering, so I have lots of experience and skills to share with you.

See you in September!

Jo Cook

Jo Cook

Subject Leader: A Level Chemistry

Hi!

I’m Jo Cook, and I am the Subject Leader for A-level Chemistry.

After doing my A-levels at college I went on to achieve an MSci degree in chemistry from Durham University, with a particular interest in physical and inorganic chemistry. I’ve been teaching A-level chemistry for nearly 20 years and love getting my hands busy with practical work and problem solving.

I am looking forward to meeting you soon, and helping you to develop your knowledge and understanding further.

Hilary Bathgate

See you soon!

Radomir Witek

Radomir Witek

Subject Leader: BTEC Applied Science, Forensic Science and Human Biology

Hi!

I’m Radomir Witek, and I’m a Lecturer in Maths and Further Maths here at Newcastle College.

I studied for a Masters in Maths, Physics and Pedagogy at Charles University in Prague back in 1997. I then spent 10 years teaching the equivalent of A Level Maths and Physics in the Czech Republic. I moved to the UK in 2005 and have taught GCSE Maths, A Level Maths, Further Maths and A Level Physics ever since.

I enjoy supporting students and helping them to achieve success in their exams.

Outside of work, I have a passion for travel, reading, chess and playing tennis and football.

See you soon!

Martin Gallacher

Martin Gallacher

Subject Leader: A Level Physics

Hi!

I’m Martin Gallacher, and I’m the Subject Leader for A Level Physics here at Newcastle College.

I qualified as a Physics/Science teacher in 2000 and taught in high schools before moving to NSCG in 2012.

Before this, I graduated with a Degree in Mathematical Physics from Liverpool University in 1998 and spent a year in the Nuclear Industry before training as a teacher, which was a fantastic experience. Physics appeals to me as it’s a broad subject, a quest for a complete explanation of the behaviour of the Universe on all scales from Particle Physics to Cosmology.

I look forward to meeting you very soon!

John Griffiths

I look forward to meeting you soon!

Richard Simpson

Richard Simpson

Course Leader: Accounting & Group Honours Programme Lead

We caught up with Richard, to chat about his experiences before joining NSCG and his advice for anyone interested in joining the Honours Programme.

Q: Tell us about your background…

A: After full-time education, I originally wanted to go into agricultural economics but ended up working for JCB, initially in the UK and then for a number of years overseas running their regional offices in Johannesburg, central and eastern Europe and, latterly JCB Asia Pacific in Singapore and Australia.

Q: How did you get into education?

A: I really enjoyed my time at JCB but, after 16 years, I decided I wanted a career change and teaching was the only profession I had seriously considered after education. I did my PGCE working in secondary schools and came to Newcastle College immediately after that which was in 2005.
