Foundation Studies

If you want to improve skills for personal progression, whether it be accessing the next level of course to study a particular subject or developing your independent living skills, you've applied to study at the right place and we can't wait to meet you!

Our Entry Level and Level 1 courses offer students vocational and employability opportunities to progress within a college setting and/or the workplace. With a variety of pathways to suit individual student needs, including outstanding study opportunities for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Our vocational offer, life skills courses and supported internship programme are designed to develop students' personal and social development skills alongside working towards gaining valuable employability and study skills for future progression.

Teachers of learners who have high needs, who are on foundation programmes, adapt the provision carefully in to smaller, achievable chunks so learners develop - step by step - their knowledge and skills to live independent lives.

Supported Internships

NSCG offers supported internships to help students aged 16-25 with a disability, take a step into paid employment. Supported internships are structured study programmes intended to enable young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities to achieve sustainable, paid employment by equipping them with the skills they need for work through learning in the workplace.

Outstanding Support

Our Supported Internships programme this year was recognised for its impact on the lives of the students enrolled on the programme, having been nominated for a TES FE Award in the 'Contribution to the local community' category.

Supporting Local Charities

Students recently presented a cheque of £401.40 to representatives from the Alice Charity after raising the money as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award through a sponsored walk and other fundraising initiatives.

Competition Success

Students on our Supported Internships programme, entered Newcastle Borough Council's latest poetry competition coming first and having their poem 'Our Story' about women's suffrageimortalised in Brampton Park.

Ryan Hardy

Former Middlehurst Special School pupil Ryan arrived as a quiet and shy learner. Now he's totally transformed, taking part in our Supported Internship programme, building his confidence and securing himself a position at McDonalds.

Organising Events

Level 1 Early Years students arranged a ran an Easter activity session earlier this term for local primary school, St Mary's. The day involved Easter biscuit decorating, making an Easter chick and number matching.

Green Fingers

As part of Volunteers Week, Foundation Studies students working with Newcastle Borough Council's 'Green Team', planting new flowers in the town centre as part of their Community Pledge Scheme.
